Trump taps Jay Clayton to lead ‘Super Intelligence Force’

President Trump named Jay Clayton to lead a new federal task force on artificial intelligence, the ‘Super Intelligence Force,’ to coordinate federal action and engage outside stakeholders.

On Sunday, President Donald Trump appointed Jay Clayton, his director of national intelligence, to lead a new federal task force on artificial intelligence called the ‘Super Intelligence Force’. The group is intended to coordinate the federal response to advanced AI and to engage outside stakeholders including consumers, public interest groups and AI companies.

Trump announced the task force in a social media post after hosting top executives from AI companies at the White House last week, where those executives signed a voluntary agreement intended to let the industry largely police its own development. In the post, Trump wrote the effort aims ‘to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence, which many say is bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and the Internet, and will protect the interests, and improve the lives, of all Americans.’

The White House described the group’s mission as coordinating activities across the federal government to protect American interests and improve citizens’ lives as AI capabilities expand. The task force will reach out to religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers, public interest groups, consumers and private AI firms.

Officials named Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Emil Michael, the Pentagon’s chief technology officer, and Scott Kupor, director of the Office of Personnel Management, as members. The group will report directly to Trump and to his chief of staff, Susie Wiles.

Officials did not provide a timetable for the task force’s initial actions. The administration has emphasized voluntary industry commitments and federal coordination rather than immediate new regulations, and it positioned the task force as the central mechanism for coordination and stakeholder outreach.
