Northstar Security Raises $7 Million to Map Connected Risks

Northstar Security has emerged from stealth with $7 million in seed funding led by Wing Venture Capital for AI agents that link security data and flag connected risks.

Northstar Security has emerged from stealth with $7 million in seed funding led by Wing Venture Capital. The startup is developing AI agents that help security teams identify connected risks across their systems.

MVP, Outliers and cybersecurity executives Gerhard Eschelbeck, Renaud Deraison and Justin Somaini also invested in the round. Northstar will use the funding for product development, hiring and sales and marketing.

The company’s platform combines data from security and IT tools in a real-time Security Context Graph. The graph links identities, assets, applications, vulnerabilities and business systems.

Northstar uses the graph to identify what it calls “toxic combinations.” A vulnerability, an unmanaged device or an account with broad permissions may present limited risk on its own. Their connection, however, could expose a sensitive business system.

For example, the platform could flag a laptop without endpoint protection if its owner has privileged access to a company’s payroll system. Analysts can investigate such findings by asking questions in plain language.

Northstar’s AI agents can start corrective actions, including installing endpoint protection, notifying the user or restricting access. People can supervise those actions when required. Customers can give external AI agents access to the graph through the Model Context Protocol, or MCP, and create their own security workflows.

Northstar says its platform connects with more than 70 enterprise security and IT products, including Okta, GitHub, Workday, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Entra, AWS and Google Cloud.

“Security teams are drowning in data but starving for context,” Amer Deeba, Northstar’s CEO and co-founder, said in a statement.

Deeba previously co-founded Normalyze, a data security company acquired by Proofpoint, and served as a senior executive at Qualys. CTO and co-founder Ed Rowe previously held the same position at Farmers Business Network and was a senior vice president of engineering at AppDynamics.
