Kevin Mandia Joins Amazon Board as Cybersecurity Director

Kevin Mandia was elected to Amazon’s board of directors on Sept. 8. He founded Mandiant, leads cybersecurity firm Armadin and is a co-founder and general partner at Ballistic Ventures; he has more than 30 years of experience responding to cyber threats in government and private industry.

Amazon’s announcement said Mandia’s background defending large organizations and investing in emerging security companies will help inform the board as cybersecurity risks change alongside advances in artificial intelligence.

Mandia founded Mandiant and led the company until its acquisition by FireEye in late 2013. The Mandiant name returned in 2021 after FireEye sold its products business. Google acquired Mandiant in 2022 and integrated it into Google Cloud.

He currently serves as founder and CEO of Armadin and as a co-founder and general partner at Ballistic Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on cybersecurity. At Ballistic Ventures he invests in startups building security tools and services.

In government service, Mandia worked as a computer security officer at the Pentagon and as a special agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. He has served on the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee and on the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s Cybersecurity Advisory Committee.

Amazon did not disclose which board committee Mandia will join or whether his appointment changes committee membership. The company said the board appointment is effective immediately.
