8Layers raises $2.9M to scale identity security

Spanish startup 8Layers closed a $1.1M pre-seed extension, taking early-stage funding to $2.9M. New investors include Criteria Venture Tech and Bankinter to fund European expansion.

Madrid-based 8Layers has closed a $1.1 million pre-seed extension, bringing its total early-stage funding to $2.9 million. New investors in the round include Criteria Venture Tech and Bankinter.

The company said it will use the funding to strengthen go-to-market activities and accelerate expansion across Europe. 8Layers recently launched its commercial platform.

8Layers provides a digital identity protection platform that combines identity security posture management, identity threat detection and response, and automated compliance with several European regulatory frameworks. The platform connects via APIs to identity providers including Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace and AWS IAM.

The product inventories human users, service accounts, API keys and AI identities across cloud services and disconnected tools. It correlates behavior signals from those sources to assign a risk score to each identity and surface threats in real time.

Described features include dormancy detection, automated containment actions and the ability to link signals over time to identify identity kill chains. The platform also maps identity controls to regulatory frameworks and continuously validates those controls.

Earlier investors include JME Ventures, which led the initial pre-seed round, along with Lanai Ventures, Draper B1 and Secways. 8Layers presented Criteria Venture Tech and Bankinter as strategic partners with direct knowledge of identity risk in the financial sector.

In a statement, co-founder and CEO Daniel Garcia Moran said the company had just launched commercially and welcomed the two strategic partners, adding their entry confirmed that digital identity security is a top-level priority for the financial sector.
