Assaf Keren Named Meta Chief Information Security Officer

Meta announced Wednesday that Assaf Keren will serve as its chief information security officer. He joins from Qualtrics, where he was senior vice president and chief security officer, and succeeds Guy Rosen, who is leaving after 13 years with the company.

Keren wrote that the role will focus on building trust for artificial intelligence at scale. In a post he added: “Building AI at the frontier means building the trust infrastructure for it at the same frontier, with the same seriousness, at a scale that touches billions of people.” He described the position as bringing together his work in security, systems and the human work of earning confidence.

Keren joined Qualtrics in March 2024 after nearly a decade at PayPal. At Qualtrics he oversaw enterprise security for the company’s software products. At PayPal he led teams responsible for protecting payments systems and customer data.

Rosen became Meta’s first CISO in 2022 after leading product security and integrity efforts. He announced his decision to leave in June and has indicated he will serve as an advisor to leaders and organizations; he has not disclosed a next position.

Meta did not provide a timeline for the transition. The appointment follows a period of leadership changes in security teams across the technology sector, with companies seeking executives experienced in system-level protection, product integrity and AI-related risks.
